Oceanography

Oceanography is the scientific study of the Earth's oceans, including their physical, chemical, biological, and geological characteristics. It examines the distribution, abundance, behavior, and ecological interactions of marine organisms, as well as their adaptations to the marine environment.

4. Geological Oceanography: Geological oceanography focuses on understanding the geological processes and formations in the ocean. It investigates the seafloor topography, oceanic plate tectonics, sedimentary processes, and the formation of features like underwater mountains (seamounts), trenches, and mid-ocean ridges.

5. Oceanographic Data Collection: Oceanographers collect data through various methods, including remote sensing from satellites, in-situ measurements using research vessels, buoys, and floats, and the analysis of historical data. These data help to build a comprehensive understanding of the oceans and support research, modeling, and forecasting efforts.
